Lucky

Happening across the street, right now

And keeping me awake until 4 am. Jesse Lopez wouldn't come out of his house when the police asked nicely, so they dragged him out several hours and several canisters of tear gas later.

UPDATE: Apparently Lopez was wanted for questioning in connection with a gang-related stabbing and several other drug-related felonies. He hid in a crawl space under the house for about 3 hours before the tear gas finally got to him. Standard-Examiner Article

And the moral of the story is...

It's tough to get through to high school students sometime, especially when you must compete with the very thing you're trying to educate them about - text messaging. Syracuse High School received federal grant money to stage a mock car crash with emergency personnel so the kids could watch and be educated about the dangers of drinking or texting while driving. The irony was several students sending text messages while watching the crew and texting while Reggie Shaw, a former USU student who killed two scientists in a head-on collision in Logan in 2006 while sending text messages, spoke about making "wise choices when you get behind the wheel." One young man tripped over police tape as he walked away from the scene, engrossed in his cell phone. Ah well.

Colo

Pawnee Buttes. Someone spilled a wind farm out there...not so Big Empty anymore. I'm a little sad. It's quite windy, though.

Jay: Now lemme tell you bout these bees. Tons of bees.

The Allen cats are hams.

Beer is good, especially in the sun. The Longmont Oskar Blues is great, but the Lyons pub has a special place in my heart.

I-80 sunset on the way back to Ogden with Steve.
