I met Ian Laperriere and Adam Foote, two of my favorite and two of the most amazing hockey players ever, and got to photograph a hockey game from the bench. If you know me, the photos speak for themselves, and really, I have nothing more to say except: EPIC.

Francom was shot and killed while serving a warrant with the Weber/Morgan Narcotics Strike Force. Hip Coffee Table: Part II

Now, on to the messy part.

Step 11: Elevate table above a sheet to protect the floor, tape edges of the coffee table:

Step 12: Prepare to mix epoxy. Safety first!

Step 13: Mix resin and hardener vigorously for 2 minutes:

Step 14: Make a mess/spread as evenly as possible on the table in the 10 or 15 minutes before epoxy starts to harden:

Step 15: Make a lil plastic tent to protect the table from dust while it dries (this takes a few hours to set completely and a few days to fully harden):

Step 16: The finished, shiny product!

Sometimes it's nice to put down your real camera.

Inspiration: Mr. Anthony Soufflé left the top of his Ikea coffee table at my house when he took off for Illinois (he took the legs). He had previously varnished a copy of the New York Times on the table - the Damon Winter Hipstamatic photos from Afghanistan front page. I wanted to do something else with it, and inspiration came to me while laying in bed one night. Hipstamatic photo collage coffee table. Why not?

Step 1: Solicit help from friends with iPhones. Thank you Chris Detrick, Trent Nelson, Djamila Grossman, Ramin Rahimian, Nicholas Draney, Matt Nager, Anthony Soufflé and my sister, Kaleigh, for contributing to my insanity:

Step 2: Google "epoxy" and "polymer" and figure out what those things are. Procure necessary supplies:

Step 3: Make vague estimation of how many photos will physically fit on the table and pick favorites:

Step 4: Size all the photos, because Costco doesn't do custom sizes or fit-to-scale, apparently. Order prints:

Step 5: Trim all photos to square. Get blisters. Decide, on a more realistic level, how many and which photos will go on the table (sorry, Trent):

Step 6: Decide just how many photos of Mike Terry are appropriate on one coffee table:

Step 7: Make vague estimation of layout for photos:

Step 8: Test adhesive methods:

Step 9: Test Polytex solution in well-ventilated area. Protect area from cats:

Step 10: Initially attach photos with tape and trim the edges:

That's it so far. The Polytex "liquid glass" takes several hours to set on the test piece, then I will know the best way to go about adhering and sealing the Hipstamatic prints on the actual table. Until tomorrow!

I tagged along on a freelance assignment and photo adventure with Djamila Grossman in Jackson last weekend and went back to the cemetery to visit some of the same graves and make photographs. Beautiful snow. Strange things people leave their dead. And nothing much had changed...

Friends and family gathered outside the memorial service for Alexis Rasmussen, 16, at the North Ogden LDS Stake Center Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011. She was missing for more than a month before she was discovered dead Oct. 17, buried near Interstate 84 in Morgan County. A few hundred people attended her funeral and yellow balloons, some with person messages written on them, were released after the service.

I checked out this festival with some friends, there were lots of people in crazy costumes or...nothing at all. It was gray and rainy for most of Sunday, but I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by sunny skies as I stepped off the BART in San Francisco. Great light, great colors, kind of freaky, pretty awsome. Enjoy!

Maple Canyon Fire

I drove out to a wildfire last week about 20 miles north of Promontory Point in Maple Canyon. The fire was reported at 7:30 p.m the night before after lightning hit the area and grew to 5,000 acres by Thursday afternoon, though firefighters expected to have it contained by nightfall, and it was mostly contained already when I got there. I took less-than-exciting wildfire photos. However, the journey out there was quite an adventure, as one of my tires blew up on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere...

Mojo, a 4-year-old a Dutch Shepherd, developed the bad habit of chewing on metal, which eroded his teeth. He received four gold crowns on his canines and a root canal at the dentist.

The 44-year-old motel and other buildings on Main Street will be cleared to make room for a $6.5 million townhouse development on the 2.9-acre site, now owned by Destination Homes. His pregnant wife, right, Kristyn Kuck, is due in a few days. Sheriff’s Lt. Chad Ferrin said the standoff started around 1:30 p.m when the suspect fled his own house on 1300 North and ran to a neighbor’s. He said the warrants were just for misdemeanors — traffic or minor criminal offenses — but "he decided he wasn’t quite ready to go to jail yet."

The Ben Lomond Hotel in Ogden hosted a "media day" today, complete with ribbon cutting, to celebrate multimillion dollar renovations and the "official" opening of MacCool's Public House, the Irish pub and restaurant which opened on Saint Patrick's Day. While the premise of this assignment sounded less than exciting, the day turned out to be quite interesting. I ran into a friend and we decided to find our own way onto the roof of MacCool's, where the Ben Lomond High School Bagpipes Corps was to play for the ribbon cutting. We found ourselves in an unfinished (probably haunted) part of the hotel and discovered a pile of flags and flag poles, headboards, an Insane Clown Posse cd case and other such oddities:

Director Sandy Havas hangs a painting at the Eccles Community Art Center in Ogden. Havas will retire after 35 years and said her greatest accomplishment for the center was raising $2 million to restore the historic building and add the dance studio and Ogden Symphony Ballet Association office.

Despite the pouring rain, I enjoyed photographing the 142nd anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad at the Golden Spike National Historic Site at Promontory today, way way way out in the middle of nowhere...

A group of people dressed in period clothing to re-enact the famous "driving of the final golden spike," which connected the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads on May 10, 1869.

I photographed a local mixed martial arts fight night for the Standard last night. Jennifer Raff and Aubree Thompson in a kickboxing match, Justin Roberts of Foley's Mixed Martial Arts in Ogden defeats Bron Lindquist by rear naked choke, Justin Roberts watches his daughter, Payden, during an exhibition with Dave Foley, and Pat Reeves celebrates after getting punched in the head quite a few times but showing off his jiu-jitsu skills with victorious a triangle choke.

And in the middle of backing up my computer, some guy rolled his truck in the canyon and knocked down a power pole, causing something in the sub station near our house to EXPLODE. I heard a loud BOOM and couldn't figure out what happened...besides my external hard drive shutting off. Then I saw emergency vehicles go up the canyon, so I followed. The driver was uninjured, but the canyon was closed for awhile and the power was out for quite awhile.

Several hours later the power returned.

Muddy Chariot Racing

The 2011 Cutter and Chariot Racing World Championships at the Golden Spike Event Center in Ogden were quite muddy this year, as it snowed all morning. Mostly good times.

I did witness one of the Weldon Racing team's horses collapse on the track at the end of a race (last photo). I am still unsure of why this happened - the horse was conscious and sedated by the vet before being taken away in a trailer. My hope is the horse was not severely injured and will not have to be euthanized. Heartbreaking.
